Education as a way to understand — and change — the world

Valéria’s work brings together climate education, participatory learning, permaculture and educational equity. Over the past fifteen years, she has helped develop mentoring programmes, afterschool learning spaces, climate education curricula and nature-based methodologies for children, educators and communities.

Core areas of work

Climate Education

Developing curricula, teaching materials and training programmes that help children understand climate change, process climate anxiety and move towards informed, hopeful action.

Permaculture with Children

Designing gardens, schoolyards and outdoor learning spaces with children through participatory, permaculture-based methods.

Educational Equity

Supporting disadvantaged children and young people through mentoring, inclusive education, afterschool programmes and community-based learning.

Climate Education Programme

Initiated in 2021 at Motiváció Műhely, the programme supports children in understanding climate change and finding meaningful ways to respond.

Balástya Tanoda Garden

A participatory permaculture garden project developed with children as part of climate-conscious education.

Student Mentoring Programme

A long-running mentoring model supporting disadvantaged, mainly Roma children through university student mentors.

About Valéria

Valéria Kelemen is an educational innovator, climate education specialist and one of the founders of Motiváció Oktatási Egyesület and the TanodaPlatform network. She currently coordinates climate education and sustainability programmes at Motiváció Műhely and works across Hungary and the UK.
